Oceanside Retreat- Salt and Cedar in Ucluelet, BC

Whenever Ben & I are travelling, I always try to find unique places to stay. We’ve stayed in a mountain top tiny house in BC, an oceanside fishing shack in Nova Scotia, and a micro-apartment in the heart of Old Quebec City. So, when we decided to travel to Vancouver Island this past summer, the hunt began right away for a unique stay. As soon as I found Salt & Cedar on Airbnb, I knew we had to stay here on our road trip. Here are our top reasons for LOVING Salt & Cedar, and why you should book it for your next vacation.

The Suite

First of all, the guest suite itself is stunning, and perfectly designed. We felt at home as soon as we arrived, and settled right in for our three day stay. Complete with a kitchenette, full spa-like washroom (with robes included!), a king sized bed, tv, wifi, small table and chairs, and a stunning porch overlooking the water- we felt like we had everything we needed! The purpose of this trip was for us to recharge and relax, and this rental allowed us to do just that. I was so happy to spend time watching the sunset from the porch, sit and read on the private beach, unwind in the soaker tub, and even enjoy breakfast in bed.

breakfast in Bed

Breakfast in Bed- yet another reason I loved Salt & Cedar. Each morning, we opened the door to a delivery of delicious freshly prepared food. One day it was muffins, fruit salad, and fresh pressed juice, meanwhile another day it was croissants, yoghurt parfait, and fresh orange juice… I am literally getting hungry as a type because the food was SO yummy. Not to mention how beautifully it was presented! In a cute basket or cooler, with a typed copy of the menu, and a quote of the day. It was truly the perfect way to start our day!

Private Beach Access

Thirdly, everything we wanted to do and see was just outside the doors of our suite … including a private beach! As Ontario kids, we always are so excited to be spending time by the ocean. Exploring the tide pools, smelling the salt water air, and enjoying the views. I don’t know about you, but I can sit by the water and watch the waves for hours. Our little private beach was amazing, but it is important to note that Salt & Cedar is within walking distance of many of Ucluelets public beaches (such as Big Beach, Little Beach and Terrace Beach), and a short drive from Tofino’s bigger beaches!

The Wild Pacific Trail

Our next reason for loving Salt & Cedar: It is right down the road from the Wild Pacific Trail. The tails around Ucluelet offer all of the views we came to the island for: forests, mountains, beaches, ocean cliffs, and even a lighthouse. We began our hike at Terrace Beach, and then jumped onto the Lighthouse Loop. We loved the lighthouse spot so much, we went back the next day to watch the sunset from there (which we also recommend!). We also suggest that you check out the Ancient Cedars Loop if you have time. It is a quick little hike through an old growth forest. You can find our more information about the Wild Pacific Trail by clicking here.

Location, Location, Location… & vintage bikes!

Our final reason for loving this rental was it’s proximity to downtown & unique transportation. Downtown is just a few minutes down the road from Salt & Cedar, and we could get there by walking, driving or… VINTAGE BIKES! I’m a sucker for cute vintage cruisers (even have one of my own at home- Betty Blue!), so this was such a fun treat for me! We took the bikes to Little Beach down the road, as well as downtown.

A few of our favourite spots in downtown Ucluelet:

  • Ukee Dogs (you need to try their Mac & Cheese Dog… trust me)

  • The Foggy Bean (coffee… need I say more?)

  • The Den (an adorable shop filled with locally made sustainable products )

  • Ukee Scoops (ice cream!)

Final Thoughts…

Overall, we cannot recommend this accommodation enough. Salt & Cedar had everything we wanted, and even more. From the ocean views and spa-like vibe, to the cute vintage bikes and homemade gourmet breakfast in the morning- everything was absolutely perfect! Click HERE to book your stay!
