Ayer’s Cliff, Quebec- The Eastern Townships

I have said it before, and I will say it again, the Eastern Townships are one of my favourite places on the entire planet! I love the scenic drives, delicious poutine, clear blue lakes, and the laid back vibe. Often Canadians skip over the Townships on their way to other places in Eastern Canada, but you NEED to stop by and experience the refreshment and relaxation that is offered here.

Our next stop on our Eastern Townships tour is the Ayer’s Cliff area. Old historic charm, and small town friendliness makes this village a wonderful spot to rent a cottage for a week or two.

So, what should you do in this quaint little village? I’m so glad you asked…

Wood’s Snack Bar

There are so many reasons that everyone loves Wood’s. First of all, they have the best hot dogs around! Steamed hot dog, with toasted buns. As my sister Emily said in her interview with CBC Radio when she was 8 years old, “their buns are perfectly toasted”. Secondly, their famous and delicious poutine is to die for! I’m talking squeaky cheese curds from the local dairy and warm homemade gravy on top of golden fries… heaven! Lastly, they make amazing milkshakes. My personal favourite is chocolate strawberry. You can thank me later for this recommendation.

Ayres Cliff Farmers Market

This has been a family favourite for years, and yet I don’t have any photos of it (?!) This is a wonderful place to grab some fresh local produce and goods! As the years have gone by, the market has added more and more vendors, offering visitors a wide variety of products. They’ve got fresh veggies and fruits, fresh baked bread, salmon, beautiful flowers, locally made pottery, and even fresh bottles of chocolate milk. So, grab a coffee, listen to some live music and check out what the farmers, makers and bakers of Ayer’s Cliff have to offer.

Ayer’s Cliff La Pinte

Bottles of milk from Eastern Townships jersey cows! Their milk is so delicious and refreshing. I also adore the vintage style glass bottle the milk comes in. You can return it to be reused, or turn it into a flower vase like me. Currently, due to the COVID-19 crisis, they are even offering porch pick up, so be sure to support your small, local business!

Fall Fair

If the timing works, check out the fair! The fair is August 27-30 2020, and celebrating it’s 175th anniversary! They have a great musical line up every year, and lots of booths and rides for the whole family!

Bonus: Magog Sunflower Farm

Technically, this is in the nearby town of Magog, so if you are up for a little drive, check it out! We loved spending an afternoon strolling through the sunflowers, and grabbing a drink in their storefront. You are able to purchase a bouquet to take home, or pay to pick some. If you do visit, be sure to respect the flowers! Nobody likes to be stepped on.
