Breakfast at Becky's

Audrey Hepburn is #goals; her fashion, demeanour, servant leadership, classiness and more! Most people know that she is one of my icons, so my mom, sisters and close friends pulled off the ultimate surprise Bridal Shower for me, inspired by Hepburn’s classic film Breakfast at Tiffany’s

Below you will find all of the recommendations for decor, food, games, and favours for your own themed event!

So, this is Breakfast at Becky’s.

The Invitations

Ben is a designer, so he worked his magic to turn me into Audrey Hepburn. Like, what?! I squealed with delight the first time I saw these. Way to go, Benny!

The Dress Code

On the invitations, guests were encouraged to wear their favourite little back dress “if their heart desires”. I thought this was such a fun and cute idea!

I personally was so torn about what to wear to this shower, deciding between my favourite little black dress and a vintage white dress. I was a little nervous about wearing the white dress, because I didn’t want it to be “too much”. After some convincing, my sisters persuaded me to wear the white dress because everyone else would be in their little black dresses and pearls. I remember one of them saying, “You’re the bride. You are literally the center of attention today, so wear the white!”. I really felt like ‘the bride’ that day! So, if you’re the bride-to-be and have a shower coming up, consider finding an outfit that has white in it! There are lots of beautiful white dresses and jumpsuits out there! I found my dress at Boutique 1861 in Montreal. Kijiji and Facebook Marketplace also have lots of dresses that other brides are selling used- scoop one of them up and feel like the bride for the day!

The Decor

So, a little bit of backstory. My Mom was hosting incredible Pinterest worthy parties before Pinterest was a thing. She is basically Martha Stewart. This love for hosting, decor, and themed parties was definitely passed on to the next generation, because Emily, Mikaela and myself all love to throw a good soirée!

For this bash, my mom, sisters, and bridesmaids Alex & Martha really knocked it out of the park! Here are some of the things you should consider if you’re planning on hosting your own Breakfast at Tiffany’s themed party.

  • Pearls & Diamonds

  • Tiffany Blue Everything!

  • Tiffany Boxes

  • Prints & posters of Audrey Hepburn

  • White flowers (given that this shower was in May, it was perfect timing to find Lily of the Valley & white Lilacs!)

The Games

Bridal shower games; either you love them or hate them. Me personally, I WANT ALL THE GAMES! I find games to be such a fun way to get to know the other guests at a shower, and also get to know the bride-to-be a little better! There were quite a few adorable games we played at Breakfast at Becky’s!

  • Pearls of Wisdom

    • This was an ongoing game throughout the afternoon. People could write a little piece of marital advice on a white circle piece of paper, and then hang it on the tree. I still have these ‘pearls of wisdom’ in my memory box.

  • Chocolate Bar/Candy Game

    • For this game, a series of chocolate bars and candies are placed in the middle of the room, each one with a different name (Journey, Hot Tamale, Extra, Snickers, etc.). Guests them have to use the names of the candy bars in a story about the happy couple. Some are heartfelt and others are hilarious- there were lots of laughs when everyone shared the short story they had written.

  • Bridal Shower Bingo

    • I really liked this game, because I felt that everyone was more engaged while I opened the gifts. My Granny & Great Aunt Helen got very competitive during this one! Basically, before the bride starts to open gifts, people fill out their own bingo card with things they think the bride might receive. They can cross items off as she opens. The first to yell BINGO, wins!

  • Photo Booth

    • Well, technically this isn’t a game… but it is an activity! Our photo booth was a hit, and helped us to document the day!

The Guest List

I had NO idea who was invited to this bridal shower, so I felt like a kid again running to the door every time the doorbell rang.

The guest list was perfect- a mixture of my friends from high school, friends from university, cousins, aunts, grandparents, some of my parents friends, and more. It was a lovely mix of people. I actually found it overwhelming to see so many people from various aspects of my life all gathered together- it was beautiful!

The Food

With such a classy theme, it was incredibly appropriate to have food that resembled a high tea. Somethings that are a MUST for a high tea event in our household are little sandwiches (cucumber, cream cheese and dill, ham & cheese, egg salad, etc.), and cookies.

For drinks, we served tea (obviously), as well as Tiffany Blue punch (Hawaiian Blue Punch). With some fancy cups and adorable paper straws, everything was perfect!

The cake was made by Courtney of Courtney Kay Cakes, and the meringues were made by students at our local high school!

Thank You’s

Alex & Emily came up with an adorable idea for favours for the guests to take home. They got Tiffany Blue nail polish from Mary Kay, and individually glued little bridal veils on them, like how cute are these?! What a thoughtful favour!

I personally am a huge fan of stationary. Ben gives me a hard time because I have rubbermaid bins full of cards, tags, gift wrap, bags, ribbon and tissue paper… I admit it is a bit of a problem. But, I love letting people know how I feel! So, literally hours after the shower had ended, I was sitting at the kitchen table writing thank you notes to everyone for celebrating me so well, loving me so hard, and for the beautiful, thoughtful gifts. As a bride-to-be, you will be writing plenty of thank you cards, so I recommend finding some cards that you really love and purchasing them in bulk. I found a 120 pack of simple, classic thank you cards at Walmart for $33.48, which you can find here.
