Our Tiny House in Golden, BC

We’d been looking for a while for a cool, unique place to stay on our trip out West, so when this tiny house made from an old shipping container in Golden, BC popped up on Air BnB, we couldn’t say no.

Ben & I have both been fascinated by tiny houses for some time now, and we were so excited about staying in one (let alone one surrounded by mountains and the forest)… Shoutout to Netflix’s Tiny House Nation for fuelling our obsession. We were lucky to be one of the first people to stay in this brand new modern tiny house, built by Torch & Timber Tiny Homes.

The location of the house was perfect; only an hour or so from Lake Louise and some of the other major sites we wanted to see on our trip, such as Emerald Lake (BC) and Lake Moraine (AB). Although we had originally planned on focusing on Banff National Park, by staying at this tiny house in Golden we were able to explore some new sights including Yoho National Park.

Overall, we loved our stay here! It had absolutely everything that we needed, and more. We were able to cook our own meals, relax, unplug (Warning: No wifi) and enjoy the stunning scenery. Another bonus, there was a property dog who was super friendly, and popped by to say hello.

The town of Golden has so much to offer visitors. We were fortunate enough to stumble upon their local farmers market while looking for a restaurant to grab lunch at. While at the market, we came upon the Wandering Fern Cafe (a little cafe on wheels!), and I had the BEST chai tea latte I’ve ever had in my LIFE (and I have had a lot). We also grabbed some yummy fresh produce to make dinner with (win!). There were lots of little stores and shops to pop into, and we enjoyed a stroll along the river before heading back to our Tiny House.

The only downside of the tiny house was that the neighbours house was a little closer than we had originally anticipated…so it was not quite as serine has we had hoped. However, as someone who is a total chicken, I felt safer knowing that there was someone nearby and that we were not totally alone in the grizzly bear and cougar filled mountains.
